Allegations of ghost dentist mar Philadelphia Hospital

DENNILTON – Allegations of a “ghost” dentist at Philadephia Hospital in Dennilton outside Groblersdal have surfaced and concerned residents demand answers.

Residents of Moutse seek answers from Limpopo Department of Health following allegations of a dentist allegedly on Philadelphia Hospital’s payroll although not providing services there.

According to the concerned residents the ghost dentist had been on the hospital’s payroll since 2018.

Seun Mogotji, a community leader, said the community of Moutse had a shortage of staff and needed the services of a dentist.

“But the budget meant for such services is being used to pay ghost employees who are not serving the community of Moutse. The alleged {dentist} only comes after hours on a monthly basis to collect a salary advice,” worried Mogotji.

The community leader said residents needed to reasons behind this appointment and its arrangement. They also need to know at whose approval the appointment was made.

“They would also like to see the documents supporting this illegal arrangement and whether proper recruitment channels were followed. We need to know who approved this, when and on what grounds,” further said Mogotji.

He questioned the purpose of having someone fill up the post and enjoy its benefits whilst the needs of the community were still not met.

“The money spent on the post since 2028 should be recovered if found there was no approval,” said Mogotji.

Limpopo Provincial Health Department has since denied allegations of a ghost dentist at the hospital in Dennilton.

Neil Shikwambana, Limpopo Department of Health Spokesperson, reportedly said the dentist was seconded to Dilokong Hospital in Mokgorwane, Gowe village as a result of oversupply of dentists at Philadelphia Hospital.

Shikwambana reportedly further said the hospital had nine dentists with only four dental chairs a result of which one doctor was seconded to Dilokong Hospital, which experienced a shortage of dentists.
