Patient shoots wife and son at St Ritas Hospital
RIVERSIDE
A 51 year old suspect appeared before the Nebo Magistrate Court for shooting his wife and son in the casualty ward of St Rita’s Hospital. The shooting took place in the early hours of Monday 20 January at about 02:30.
James Sopi Mankge and his son were admitted at the hospital for injuries sustained during a fight that broke out between them on Sunday, 19 January at about 20:00 at Riverside next to Jane Furse.
“According to the information, the suspect was busy assaulting his wife, allegedly over another woman when his son aged 25 tried to intervene.
“ He then turned on him and the son allegedly fought back by stabbing his father. They then sustained injuries that required medical treatment and both went to the hospital separately,” Limpopo SAPS’s Motlafelo Mojapelo said.
According to the SAPS, whilst in the casualty ward, an argument allegedly broke out again, this time in the presence of the other woman. Suddenly, the suspect removed the drips, went to his vehicle and when he came back to the ward, he allegedly shot his son and wife, critically injuring them. The other woman was not affected by the shooting incident..
Police confirmed that the suspect later handed himself over to the local SAPS. His licensed firearm was then confiscated and the process of declaring him unfit to possess a firearm has already commenced.
The suspect will face two counts of attempted murder.
