Sekhukhune overwhelmed by aces in gateway subjects
SEKHUKHUNE – Despite numerous challenges faced in the district, Sekhukhune has seen some of the schools performing extremely well in gateway subjects during the 2019 Grade 12 examinations with some learners achieving 100 percents in the latter subjects.
Trevor Mashabela from Rantobeng High School in Sekhukhune South, Diphagane village outside Jane Furse under the Lobethal circuit received an award for achieving 300/300 in Life Sciences. Mashabela also received position four in the Best Performing Learners Top 30 in Limpopo.
Mashabela, who has passion for Physical Science, Geography and Mathematics, said he found interest in how he was able to relate and use the knowledge he had learnt in class to solve everyday problems.
The lad further said that his passion for infrastructure led his interest in pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria.
“I would also like to own a construction company one day and contribute towards developing infrastructure development in South Africa as well as in my own community,” smiled Mashabela who also obtained position two in quintile 1 category of schools.
His school, Rantobeng High School, managed to once again be among the best top three schools in quintile one-two, a category that carries the most disadvantaged schools of them all which are required to obtain 65 percent pass or more. Rantobeng High School hit position three in the category.
In the race for 100 percent pass rate, Moreko High School in Phokwane village rescued Sekhukhune district with their wonderful results.
Sekhukhune East moved from 60% in 2018 to 63 percent in 2019 with Limpopo province moving from 69 percent in 2018 to 73.2 percent in 2019.
Other top achievers in Sekhukhune are who obtained 300/300 in Physical Science are Manaka Mmakwena from Mmashadi Comprehensive School, Brain Matlebjane from LIBSA/St Mark’s College, Kabelo Thulare Mhlongo from Moreko High School in Phokwane circuit, Makua Naledi from LIBSA/St Mark’s College, Patience Tutuzile from St Paul’s High School and Thwala Nthabiseng who obtained 300/300 in Engineering Graphics.
