Car swept away by water in Ga Motodi

The recent rains almost took away the life of a middle aged man from Ga Motodi. Pictures of a car trapped in the Tswetlane River are all over the social networks.

Peter Mnisi from Ga Mabelane section survived a brush with death when he was rescued by locals before his car was swept away by water.

He tried to cross the flooded river with his Toyota Hilux bakkie on Sunday evening.  According to eyewitness, his car got stuck inside the river and it was left to the communities to rescue him.

Mnisi escaped unharmed in the incident after the locals tied him with a rope and pulled him out of the water.

An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, told Sekhukhune Times that they warned him before crossing the river.

“We told him the river was fully flooded but it looked like he was gambling his life as he was adamant that he wanted to drive through to get home. This man was lucky to survive,” said our source.

The bakkie was damaged during the incident. Limpopo SAPS warned residents not to cross flooded rivers.
