Driver dies after truck is torched, suspects at larger
JANE FURSE- The South African Police Service (Saps) in Sekhukhune have launched a manhunt for suspects responsible for torching a truck and killing its driver on Friday 03 January 2020.
According to police the incident took place at about 17:00 that day when the deceased, 30 year-old Kagiso Mphelane together with his crew members drove in a truck belonging to Jane Furse Builders Supply at Tshehlwaneng village along the Jane Furse road.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said two unknown suspects threw what seemed like a petrol bomb at the truck.
Mojapelo said the front portion of the truck caught fire resulting in the driver burning to death and his crew members, who were taken to hospital, suffering serious burn wounds.
“The police were called and immediately commenced with initial investigations. It is suspected that the incident could be linked to the ongoing strike by employees of this company which resulted in some of them being dismissed,” said Mojapelo.
A case of murder, two counts of attempted murder and malicious damage to property were opened by police while investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information that lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Lieutenant Colonel Phalane at 082 4142663 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.
