PHIRING – Residents of Phiring village outside Burgersfort gathered at the local tribal authority office to hear the progress of the halted water project in the area.
The gathering was called by Sekhukhune District Municipality’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) who brought together MMC for water and infrastructure, Mbusi Mahlangu and the acting Municipal Manager, Mr Mofokeng to answer to questions of residents regarding the halted water project.
The meeting followed problems encountered in the water project in the area which dates back to 2014 and is yet to be completed as residents remain without proper access to water.
The municipality explained during the meeting that the reason the project was not completed as envisaged was problem related to the contractor.
It was explained that meeting were scheduled to take place with the contractor in question to give reasons why he had not completed work as expected.
The district municipality explained to the residents that there were legal processes to be followed before the contractor could be taken off the project.
Answering to some of the questions, MMC Mahlangu promised the villagers that as an interim measure the district municipality would send two water tankers to the area to ensure that people there got water as the matter were being resolved.
Mahlangu further promised the villagers that they would come back to the area to look into issues raised about a municipality tank inside one of the yards which the owner of the yard was using as his.
