Community discuss their worries with authorities

Residents in Mporwane came together recently for a public meeting to discuss issues affecting their area daily. A meeting saw community members joined by a ward councillor and a police representative to address community member’s concern.
The meeting was held in the Mporwane Community Hall. Shocky Bafedi, the programme director for the event, kept proceedings running smoothly, and community expressed concerns about number of issues, including the scrounge of drugs taking over Mporwane, corruption in the police force, unsettled cases and safety of the community.
Residents addressed their worries to their guests and police representative. He mentioned that with regard to corruption within the police force, people must come to him with tangible proof.
Mapheto Shai, police forum representative said: “You must be specific in your complaint, be willing to give a statement and give us evidence like photo and must not generalise as we need to root them out of the organisation,”
“The channel of communications is also very important and the community must follow the correct channels when laying complaints,” said Shai.
He added that the community must work with the police to make Mporwane a safer place and report crime and problems to the police
With the move, the ward councillor urged community to work hand in hand with police to arrest criminals in the area.
