MARBLE HALL – A suspect involved in a business robbery in Marble Hall was arrested and another fatally wounded during an intelligence led joint operation on Monday 23 September 2019 morning.
According to police the operation, which comprised of the crime intelligence, the tracking team, and Saps Air-wing, was activated immediately after information was received about a group of armed suspects who had just committed a business robbery at a local filling station.
Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the operation followed tracks of the suspects involved until a motor vehicle which matched the description of one of the vehicles used by the criminals was spotted in Marble Hall town.
Ngoepe said police tried to pull the suspects off the road but they did not stop and sped off. A motor vehicle chase ensued and in the process, the suspects started shooting at the police who retaliated.
“Subsequently, one suspect was fatally wounded and one was arrested. The other suspects managed to evade arrest and disappeared on foot into the nearby farms,” said Ngoepe.
He added that a VW Polo Vivo, reported stolen in Lehlabile in the North West province, a rifle, a 9mm pistol and undisclosed amount of money believed to be some of the cash robbed during the incident were recovered.
General Nneke Ledwaba, Limpopo South African Police Service (Saps) Provincial Commissioner, applauded the team for their swift reaction towards the incident.
“Those criminals who are still perpetrating these types of incidents are going to be dealt with mercilessly and without compromise,” warned Ledwaba.
Police manhunt for the remaining suspects is still underway and anyone with information that can lead to their arrests should contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the crime stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
