Career expo for rural learners a success
TAFELKOP – More than 700 learners from three schools in Tafelkop including post matriculates and youth in general converged in the area outside Groblersdal to benefit from information sharing career expo organized by Tafelkop Youth Development (TYD), Kasie Legends and KMedia Solutions.
The well attended expo attracted exhibitors, the business sector, South African Police Services (Saps), colleges, the mining fraternity among other community stakeholders.
According to Sello Matsepe, TYD Chairperson, the expo was key for learners in Sekhukhune district as it meant to connect them to opportunities they could explore following matriculation or even provide further for the post matriculates and young people in general.
Matsepe said they opted to host to initiative in Tafelkop as such events were very rare in the area, a situation which sent many frustrated in terms of making correct career choices.
“Tafelkop is always not considered when it comes to initiatives such as this one and issues of development in general. We had planned to get all schools in the district to participate initially but due to other technicalities, that could not happen,” said Matsepe.
Matsepe said businesses that sponsored the expo did so with diligence and passion and that they were grateful for their efforts.
“That will also encourage other local businesses to support initiatives aimed at community development. It is important that we come together for the brighter future of our young people,” said Matsepe.
Matsepe said the community of Tafelkop played a pivotal role in helping market the expo for maximum participation.
Learners who attended the event said they were exposed to careers paths they did not know about before and that made them broaden their choices.
