KWAGGAFONTEIN – The South African Police Service in Kwaggafontein outside Marble Hall have launched a massive manhunt for a group of suspects following a cash-in-transit-heist last.
According to police the heist occurred in Vlaklaagte no 1 on the R573 road in Kwaggafontein at about 17:00 in the afternoon on 12 August 2019.
Colonel Leonard Hlathi, Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson, said about 15 suspects in different vehicles shot at a cash vehicle with assault rifles to stop it.
Hlathi said when the cash vehicle stopped, the suspects removed the driver and two other security guards and disarmed them of two 9mm pistols.
“The driver was injured on his hand but his firearm was not taken. The suspects blew up the cash van and an undisclosed amount of money was taken before the suspects fled the scene. The injured driver was taken to hospital,” said Hlathi.
Police said the vehicles involved were a charcoal/grey Golf 7 with a NW registration, a silver Volvo with a GP registration, a silver Corolla, a white Isuzu bakkie with a black bumper, a red Isuzu, a white BMW and a sky-blue Audi.
