The Department of Home Affairs continue to fail a victim who’s Identity document was stolen by failing to trace the perpetrators. Many citizens goes mad after losing their ID’s knowing that perpetrators might use them to do fraud.
Jonas Matlala cannot open a bank account, due to identity theft resulting from a lost ID book. Matlala said he discovered that someone was using his identity when he tried to open a bank account with one of the banks.
He said the bank told him that he already have an account with them but I told the bank I don’t.
“They checked the details of the account holder and they discovered it was the same as mine. The bank promised to trace the account holder but they never got back to me,” said Matlala.
Victim said recently he obtained his new smart card ID but still the bank would not help him. He said even the department of home affairs would not help him.
“The community must immediately report their matter urgently. They must never take it for the granted. The public must not take it lightly when they lose their ID’s,” said Matlala.
“I hope I will find someone to help me resolve the issue ,” he said.
