SWARTKOP – A 35 year-old driver of a Toyota Quantum lost his life on the N11 road near Swartkop outside Marble Hall on Wednesday morning.
The fatal accident involved the taxi and a Great North bus, both travelling in the Marble Hall direction, that morning at about 06:35.
Matome Moremi, Limpopo Department of Transport Spokesperson, said 35 year-old driver of the minibus taxi died on the spot.
Moremi said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus overtook the taxi on a barrier-line at the sharp curve.
Mercia Blake, of the Life24 Ambulance Service, said the accident occurred about 5km from Marble Hall town towards Groblersdal.
Blake said 24/7 Towing dispatched Life24 Ambulance Services to the scene of the accident on the N11 road.
“Traffic had to be redirected to the Vaalfotein road for the scene to be attended properly,” said Blake.
She added that Life24 Ambulance Service Marble Hall crew transported seven patients Groblersdal Hospital with minor injuries while the Groblersdal crew transported six patients to Matlala Hospital.
“We would like to thank the fire department team, traffic officers, the South African Police Service and 24/7 Towing for assistance on the scene of the accident. We pray for all who were injured to recover speedily. Rest In Peace to the taxi driver and our sincere condolences his family, relatives and friends,” said Blake.
Blake further appealed to road users to adhere to the rules of the road to avoid accidents that continued to claim lives on the roads.
