GA-MPHETI

In a bizarre incident, a principal of Mohlophe Primary school at Ga Mpheti has allegedly ordered learners to empty toilets at the schools.

The incident happened last Tuesday.  It is alleged the principal ordered grade 6 and 7 pupils at the school to remove human waste in the school’s toilets last Tuesday. The school is utilising the enviro loos.

This has angered the communities who have reported the matter to the Driekop circuit.  DA provincial leader Jacques Smalle also confirmed filing a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission to investigate the department’s failure to provide adequate toilet facilities and sanitation at the school.

According to a woman who resides next to the school, she was shocked when she saw a group of pupils emptying poop from the toilets. She said they were with one of the senior teachers who assisted them in digging the faeces.

The residents said human waste was loaded in big sacks and into wheelbarrows and dumped nearby a mountain.

They told Sekhukhune Times that the faeces was removed the following day from the veld after the kids have reported the matter to some of their parents.

“This is not the first time he is doing this, pupils were ordered to empty toilets five years ago and they sustained injuries due to some of the chemicals used in the toilets.”

Limpopo Education’s Sam Makondo   said “This matter is being investigated. That’s where we are now. The allegations are very serious and as a department we have one side of the story in the form of these allegations and through an investigation we must get the other side of the story for proper action to be taken.”
