The police in Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane are investigating the cause of death of two Zimbabwean men aged 34 and 39 who died during an incident which occurred on the 28 May 2019.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said it is alleged that four people were busy digging building sand for road construction when the heap of soil fell on top of them.
Ngoepe said the police search and rescue team was summoned to the incident were four victims were recovered.
“The police search team reacted swiftly and found four victims were two of them were already dead and the other two were still alive but with injures,” said Ngoepe.
According to colonel Ngoepe the injured victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment in a critical condition.
Ngoepe said the preliminary police investigation has revealed that both deceased are Zimbabwean nationals and they will be identified soon after their next of kin are informed.
“Members of community are advised to ensure that adequate safety measures are in place when operating in this type of incidents to avoid death and injuries,” he said.
Ngoepe affirmed that the police investigations are still continuing.
