Community members in Madishaditoro village outside Zebediela are accusing the police for alleged use of live ammunition to disperse the residents during the protest on Monday evening.
The community has been on a shut down for five weeks demanding the tarring of the D4036 road.
Over twenty three people were arrested during protest in the area and are due to appear in court on 17 May.
The School Governing Body (SGB) had closed nearest schools due to safety of the learners.
Community members Jonas Makhafola said they do not understand why the police attacked community members with the live ammunition instead of using rubber bullets.
Makhafola said they felt threatened and he deems their rights to protest are compromised.
Meanwhile Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said they are trying to establish what really happened in the area.
Ngoepe said has in the meantime advised the community to report the matter to the local police station commander.
