GA-MPHAHLELE

Community members in Ga Mphahlele were embarked on strike following the allegation that the department of education want to merge Ramalawane secondary school and take the learners to other nearby schools.

For that reason, some community members were arrested and over 37 suspects were released from police custody due to lack of evidence on Tuesday.

Residents protested shortly after three community members were remanded in custody on Thursday, for malicious damage to property.

They are accusing the principal of being behind the removal of learners from the school.

Mabote Makgati, ward 25 councillor, said they have been communicating with the residents to try and resolve the situation but it is difficult to reach an agreement as many wards have mobilised to protest.

Spokesperson for department of education in Limpopo Sam Makhondo said the department maintain to shut down Ramalawane secondary school because the school does not meet the policy standard as it has limited number of learners.
