IEC promise the citizens the free and fair elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the province said it is confident that the 08 May general elections will be free, fair and credible.

A majority of the 26.7 million registered voters will go to the polls next week Wednesday, but 770 000 of them will cast their special vote next week on Monday and Tuesday.

IEC electoral officer in the province Nkaro Mateta said the electoral body has in its record the full physical address of almost 85% of registered voters.

She said they are still appealing to those who have not registered their address to do so before ballot papers are handed out to them on Election Day.

“We arranged security for each voting station and more than 60 million national and provincial ballot papers have been printed and distributed,” she said

Mateta said among the challenges they faced in this year elections is the increases in the number of registered parties, which has forced the IEC to increase its resources accordingly.
