The Steelpoort Ngwaabe Cluster Community Mining and Stakeholder Engagement Forum has been recognised and endorsed by the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality.
This comes after negotiations that started in early 2018. On Thursday, community members received the endorsement letter from Mayor Naume Phala.
Handing over the letter Phala warned the residents of not being above the law.
“This letter is to allow negotiations with the mining companies, which we will also partake in them. We all aim at having an improved FTLM in which our economy can be improved and sustained. This does not mean you will be above the law but to ensure smooth talks between the local mines our communities and the Department of mineral services.”
Representing the forum, Elias Tshukudu said all they need is a voice within the mining sector and to negotiate with the mines in terms of employment and development in their communities.
