Blazing inferno damages four stores in Burgersfort

Four shops in the Burgersfort CBD were affected by a blazing inferno during the morning of 8 April. The other two were not completely burnt but had some properties damaged. The most affected was Save More and Sharp Sharp stores.
Firefighters battled for several hours to douse off the fire that started at about 06:55 at one of the local supermarkets.

Eyewitness said the inferno completely burnt Save More and Sharp Sharp , with Lewis and Midas’s roofing also catching fire.

“This was a big fire, luckily there were no casualties,” said Victor Phala, a barbershop owner operating next to the burnt complex.
Shop owners revealed that they notified fire brigades immediately when they learnt off the fire.
Local fire brigades from all corners of Sekhukhune were dispatched to combat the fire.

When Sekhukhune Times left the scene at 15:30pm, fire fighters were still busy trying to contain the blaze.

On Tuesday, smoke was still billowing from the two supermarkets.

Looters were also helping themselves with some of the damaged products.  The cause of the fire was not yet known at the time of going to print.
