The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality has officially introduced its new leadership to members of the media and the public. Recently, there have been changes in the political and administrative leadership of the municipality.
During a strategic planning meeting held at Lapeng Lodge last Wednesday the FTLM took time to engage the media on its future plans and changes in administration.
New head of communications, Ngoato Rachidi confirmed the appointment of former Speaker and chairperson of FTLM council, Tlakale Naume Phala as the new mayor.
“Phala has been elected anonymously as the new mayor with effect from January 24. Her appointment comes months after the resignation of Johannes Phokane following the controversial VBS Mutual Bank investment. This effectively means that the position of the Speaker is vacant in the council structure.”The new mayor told the media that in terms of administrative leadership council has suspended the municipal manager, NP Busane due to the VBS investment which hampered service delivery and for having contravened all treasury regulations.
“The Limpopo Provincial Government has resolved to place our municipality on Section 139 1(b) and seconded Maureen Judith Ntshudisane as municipal manager (MM) and Sasa Mulenga as CFO.”
On acceleration of services, she said SANRAL has committed to widen the R37 with effect from April 1 from Dilokong Hospital to Burgersfort aimed to reduce traffic flow. ”
Phala added that they are continuing to engage the Department of Health regarding the conversion of Nchabeleng Health Centre into a hospital.
“It is anticipated that this will promote the health status of the population as a fundamental human right and will curb travelling long distances.”
Phala also revealed that plans to construct Apel SAPS offices (Masenkaneng) into fully fledged police stations is at advance stage.
Concluding the session she said they are prepared to cut cost at the FTLM.
“A detail cost containment measure based on the circular number 82 of the National Treasury aimed to reduce travelling; over-time for employee (pre-approval should be made four days before )hiring of venues for meetings; engagements with consultants; catering; presence usage of water and electricity; telephone capped and data usage”
