A clash of the titans ensued when Lou Stars FC edged Blue Birds FC 2-1 in the final match played at the Happy Kings sports ground at Ga Makofane last Sunday
In a winner takes all encounter, four teams locked horns in a round robin soccer challenge.
The curtain raiser of the day saw Blue Birds FC thump Sunrise FC 4-3 after a sudden death penalty shoot-out.
That came after the two teams had played all their hearts out to share the spoils in a thrilling nil all draw.
Birds Goalkeeper Dimpho Mokoena stole the show when he denied Sunrise defender Keletso ‘Shortie’ Mokoo’s hapless effort that reeled straight into Mokoena’s hands.
Sunrise players and supporters protested the goal saying Mokoena had moved before Mokoo kicked the ball but eventually the referee awarded the winning goal.
The second encounter featured Lou Stars FC battling it out against their neighbouring counterparts Golden Brothers FC.
Nine minutes after the breather, Lou Stars FC striker Alfred Moraba dribbled past two Golden Brothers FC defenders and blasted a volley that eluded the goalie and gave stars a 1 nill win.
The final pitted Blue Birds FC and Lou Stars FC. Seven minutes into the first half, Blue Birds FC’s Othello Makofane got a first touch
Opportunity, skipped two defenders in the box and rounded the Stars keeper Khomotso Shai who had skipped goal in an attempt to block him.
Othello then blasted the ball wide, missing a clear cut chance. Lou Stars quickly made a counter attack and Josias Lesele scored for his side two minutes later.
Blue Birds regrouped and, this time, their marksman Othello Makofane got it right as he equalised with a tame short.
Labour Dibakoane sealed the game for Lou Stars in the last stanza scoring with a scorcher.
