MARBLE HALL – Former Speaker of the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EMLM) Council, Molaodi Mothogwane has been appointed the new mayor of the local municipality.
Mothogwane’s appointment as EMLM Mayor comes months after the sacking of the local municipality’s former mayor, Bela Kupa who was one of the seven mayors the provincial ANC leadership took a decision to expel following the controversial VBS mutual bank investments.
Bushi Modisha was appointed as the local municipality council speaker while Frederick Sedibane was made Chief Whip.
The appointments of the three followed several council meeting’s disruptions previously through which council sought to fill the vacant posts.
The three were sworn in during a council meeting at the local municipality chamber in Marble Hall last Thursday.
Jan Phasha, EMLM Spokesperson, said as the local municipality they were pleased that the vacant positions had been filled.
Flip Jacobs, DA EMLM Councillor, said they were happy that the local municipality’s structure regained shape through the appointment of the new mayor.
Jacobs said although as the party did not have a say in who the mayor should be they were glad to see that majority of the municipal workers welcomed the appointment of the new mayor.
