Phala takes over the hot seat at Fetakgomo Tubatse

Speaker of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality Naume Phala was on Monday inaugurated as the new mayor for the municipality during a council meeting held at the chamber. She is the first female to occupy the hot seat.
Phala takes over from Johannes Maudu Phokane who resigned on 12 December 2018, he resigned after he was sacked by the Limpopo’s provincial ANC’s leadership.
Phokane was fired along with six other mayors for their alleged involvement in the VBS scandal. . Since December, the municipality did not have a political leader.
Locals had complained to the Sekhukhune Times of lack of accountability, during the period in which the municipality was without a mayor.
“We have roads that are potholed, unfinished RDP houses, Operation Mabone project have also stalled. We plead with the new mayor to tackle all these challenges,” said Max Makine from Praktiseer .
Numerous meetings were previously organised by the muni to appoint the mayor but there were alleged disruptions from members of the community. In one of the meetings, residents were hurling vulgar words at the leadership of the ANC in the Sekhukhune region. Sources also revealed that the ANC was also undecided on who to appoint as the mayor.
The appointment of Phala, leaves the speaker’s position at Fetakgomo Tubatse vacant. The position is expected to be filled in the coming weeks
