MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana donates uniforms to the needy
MASHAMOTHANE
300 pupils from local schools in Tubatse received uniforms from Limpopo’s social development MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana last Thursday. The handing ceremony was held at Mosebu primary school in Mashamothane.
Mokaba and her department have an annual project in which they handover uniforms to vulnerable kids. The donations also included school bags and sanitary towels.
Mokaba said that education is one of the first priorities of the current government; hence the department embarks on
this venture in support of families that cannot afford to buy their kids school uniforms.
The department is aiming at encouraging pupils to go to school and have a sense of belonging without feeling ashamed towards those whose families can afford to buy their kids the school attire.
“There are kids that were identified to receive these uniforms. We thank our social workers for choosing the neediest of them all. This is the little we can get; we hate to see our kids indulging in drugs and prostitution. The pupils we are donating uniforms today, are our future engineers and architects,” she added.
