DA concerned about shoddy work in RDPs
POLOKWANE
The DA has filed a complaint with the office of Human Settlements Ombudsman to probe the Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), under MEC Jerry Ndou, after it was established that the department spent over R68 million rectifying over 869 poorly-built houses in this financial year.
In a parliamentary reply to the DA, the Minister for Human Settlement, Nomaindia Mfeketo has confirmed that Limpopo is amongst six provinces that had to waste taxpayer’s money trying to rectify shoddy work in the last five financial years.
“Besides the 869 houses that the department has already rectified, the department still have to fix another 5 291 instead of building new houses for the poor residents of Limpopo.”
This publication can confirm that in Sekhukhune alone, 73 RDP houses were either abandoned or left incomplete in eight villages after a poor job.
These houses were meant for destitute families but were left incomplete since 2014 without windows, doors and roofing.
