More than 650 suspects nabbed for various crimes around the province

LIMPOPO – A total of 673 suspects aged between 19 and 56 years-old including 471 illegal immigrants were arrested for various criminal activities throughout the province since the beginning of the year 2019, according to South African police Service in Limpopo.

Police said the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen properties, theft, dealing in liquor without license, murder, public drinking, armed robbery, contravention of illegal immigration Act to TRIO crimes.

Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the arrests were made during simultaneous intelligence led-joint-operations conducted through tracing of wanted suspects, roads blocks, stop and searches, Boarder Policing and raiding of illegal businesses.

Ngoepe added the operations were composed of members derived from Crime Intelligence, Public Order Police, General Detectives, clusters and stations.

“During these operations, six firearms, 14 rounds of ammunition, four magazines, nine cellphones, four cars, Plasma TVs, two bolt cutters, copper cables, clothing and groceries were confiscated,” informed Ngoepe.

Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial South African Police Service Commissioner, commended all members who were involved in the operations.

“I urge all members of the South African Police Service in this province to be relentless in this fight until the crime situation is completely normalized,” concluded Ledwaba.

Ngoepe said all the arrested suspects had already started appearing before various magistrates’ courts around the province.
