SEKHUKHUNE – Kgoshi Thulare Victor Thulare of Bapedi Ba Sekhukhune made a groundbreaking appearance on his first international twinning visit to the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. The Sekhukhuneland traditional leader was given a warm welcoming by the Lesotho Minister of Gender, Youth Sport and Recreation Mme Mahali Phamotse, on behalf of His Majesty Kgoshi Letsie III. During his three days official visit as the king of Bapedi nation, Kgoshi Thulare was given the Basotho royal courtesy which included a gift of a horse and ethnic Basotho hat. Kgoshi Thulare also took part in a walk on a route that was taken by the founding father of Basotho nation, Kgoshi Moshoeshoe I. Kgoshi Thulare took along part of his heritage for an exchange with Basotho including cultural groups such as dipepetlwane and manyalo aerobic dance who shared the stage with Basotho counterparts. According to Kgoshi Thulare, the purpose of the trip was to initiate twinning relations among Bapedi and Basotho nations, forge multifaceted relations and social cohesion initiatives owing to the revival of a strong bond of historic relations. “We as Bapedi are ready to receive Basotho Kingdom delegation at Tšate Great Place so that full appreciation of each other’s history is explored. We engage in projects that promote economic empowerment of women for the two nations that we have and share in our common history,” said Kgoshi Thulare III.
