Seroka wins Lesotho marathon
MOROKE
Local veteran athlete, Lazarus Seroka is flying the South African flag high.
He won the Lesotho High Altitude Summer Marathon. He completed this feat in the masters category of this tough race in a time of 3:22:03. The race took place in Maseru on December 1.
This marathon is considered a very challenging event even for the most seasoned marathon runner, and yet at the same time affords an invigorating course for the keen athlete.
The course, which takes the runners through picturesque villages and amazing mountain views, is done on asphalt and gravel roads. It is marked by steep ascents and descents.
Seroka said the race was among the toughest he has ever run.
“The steep ascents and descents made it difficult for the runners. I just told myself I have to win this one. I travelled from Tubatse to Lesotho to be a champion. There was no way I was going to settle for the runners-up spot,” he told SekhukhuneTimes.
The veteran runner said Saturday’s gold medal was number 253 in his marathon career.
