After seven weeks of Samwu workers protesting at Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM). Last Thursday, they were relieved to see the back of one of their so called “nemeses. Director of corporate affairs at the municipality Mafori Isaac Phasha has finally been suspended.
The union’s workers had been protesting for weeks demanding his resignation. The council sitting decided to suspend the director and to do some investigations in the allegations labelled against him and his appointment.
Samwu alleged Phasha had been illegally appointed in his position.
“He applied for the position after it was closed and ended up getting it. Management should stop nepotism and favouritism in senior managerial posts. This man was appointed illegally,” said Samwu’s Colin Dlamini.
Also among the union’s concerns is the downgrading of employees. Sekhukhune Times has learned from the union that since the amalgamation of the former Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) and Fetakgomo Municipality (FM), and the emerging of the VBS saga, the grading of FTLM has been impacted negatively, with the remuneration and placement of employees also affected.
