Sekhukhune is known to be the worst performing district in terms of sport and recreation, that’s as far the recently held Limpopo Sport Awards is concerned. Bringing everyone up to speed and encourage mass participation to impressive levels are some of the notes exchanged between the Sekhukhune District Municipality’s Executive Mayor Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila, MEC Thandi Moraka and the District’s Senior Manager for Sport Arts Culture Mr Kodikodi ‘Marumo’ Mabotha during Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality’s Mayor’s Cup finals in Jane Furse on Sunday 04 November 2018.
According to Executive Mayor Ramaila the effort linked to broaden and deepen sport participation by a bigger number of residents the annual Mayor’s Cup tournament across all four local municipalities of Sekhukhune District are coordinated to allow all sporting codes to thrive and for all wards to hold their grassroots build-up at ward and cluster level.
Ramaila praised MEC Moraka for putting an accelerator on the Sekhukhune District Municipality’s sport sector enablers such as talent identification tournaments such as Mayor’s Cup tournaments.
“We are deeply touched by MEC Moraka’s commitment to the revival of sporting culture in our district. She stayed with us until late evening as we jovially witnessed the blossoming of the rising stars of Makhuduthamaga. As we will be rotating with the remaining three local municipalities we plead with MEC Moraka to continue gracing us with her presence and complete the journey at Executive Mayor’s Cup early next year” said Ramaila
In her support to sport across the province MEC Moraka recently congratulated Caster Semenya for scooping Sports Woman of the Year at annual South African Sports Awards in Bloemfontein. She is a commonly seen supporting Limpopo’s PSL football teams Baroka FC, Black Leopards FC and Polokwane City FC. This Sunday 25 November 2018 she will be amongst the esteemed supporters of Baroka FC as they will be trouncing Bivest Wits FC in the semi-final of Telkom Knockout.
