MANGANENG – A 27 year-old suspect arrested for business robberies at Manganeng Clinic and a local tuck-shop in the area was remanded in custody when he appeared before Sekhukhune Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 21 November 2018.
The suspect, Koporo Calvin Letageng, appeared before the court on charges of business robbery and his case was remanded to 30 November 2018 for formal bail application.
According to police, the suspect was arrested within a 72 hour implementation plan on Sunday, 25 November 2018 for business robberies at the local clinic and tuck-shop on Saturday, 24 November 2018, around 12:30 when he attempted to open a false case of car hijacking at Jane Furse police station.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said preliminary investigations soon revealed that he was the driver of the vehicle whose occupants committed the two robberies.
Mojapelo said the firearm that was robbed from a security officer who was on duty at the clinic and other suspects involved in the incidents were still outstanding and search operations were ongoing.
“Meanwhile the first suspect who was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police at Manganeng village has since been identified and investigations are continuing to establish if he and other suspects could be linked to other similar cases in the area and elsewhere,” explained Mojapelo.
