Former police sergeant arrested for attempted murder of girlfriend and her twin sister

RAKGOADI – A 38 year-old former police sergeant was on Tuesday 27 November 2018 arrested for attempted murder of his girlfriend and at Mmotwaneng village outside Marble Hall.

According to police the incident occurred on Sunday 24 November 2018 at about 22:30 when the suspect broke the window of the room in which the victims were sleeping and started stabbing his girlfriend who is also a social worker. The twin sister was also stabbed when she apparently attempted to come to the rescue of her sister. Following the brutal attack, the suspect disappeared and attempted to commit suicide.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said police assisted by the K9 unit and members of the community launched a massive search operation until the suspect was on Tuesday found hiding at his friend’s place at Mmotwaneng and arrested.

Mojapelo said the suspect was a Sergeant attached to Motetema police station and was dismissed from the service two months ago after he was arrested for armed robbery committed in April 2018.

“The victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment. The motive for the brutal attack is unknown at this stage. Police investigations continue. The suspect will soon appear before Motetema Magistrates Court outside Groblersdal on two counts of attempted murder,” informed Mojapelo.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the attack on the two women.

Ledwaba said they were already seized with activities around the province on 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children and that type of criminality ought to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
