Top officials implicated in VBS saga suspended at the FTLM

BURGERSFORT

Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s municipal manager Nonto Busane has been suspended. Busane was suspended along with the municipality’s acting Chief Financial Officer Frank Maredi last Friday during a special council meeting held at the Civic Centre in Burgersfort.

The two are suspended with full salary, pending investigations into the VBS bank issue
immediately, after their suspensions, two replacements were revealed. The municipal manager’s positon is occupied by Mr LT Gabaganenwe while Mr DE Mapotsane will serve as CFO. The two officials will be acting on their respective positions.
To get rid of Busane, countless protests were directed to the FTLM’s civic centre as well as the council meetings that were mostly held in Apel.
The two officials were suspended because of their alleged involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank saga.
Opposition parties called for the mayor Johannes Phokane to also resign as the leader of the municipality. They hinted that the two were not the only officials implicated in the VBS saga.
Meanwhile Samwu workers at the municipality are still protesting for the director of corporate affairs Mafori Phasha to be suspended. Workers said his application was done after the directorate for the corporate services was close. They highlighted that he’s also implementing wage curve which doesn’t
have collective agreement and they are illegal to workers.
