MEC plans to root out corruption at the crèches
POLOKWANE
Social development MEC in Limpopo Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana hosted two days Early Development Centre (EDC) conference, held in Polokwane
This conference was attended by various stakeholders such as EDC forum, board members and representatives from the municipalities.
The MEC acknowledged the role played by the EDC practitioners and she said they are helping to shape the future leaders.
She said the EDC managers must know how to manage their centres and be well informed on how to regulate their them.
“Some centres are fraudulently registering a higher number of children to make money and this is illegal. The department has already established a unit to deal with fraud activities and practices at the EDC centres,” she said.
Mokaba-Phukwana said the benefit of early interventions in children’s livelihoods which include improved school enrolment rates, high rates of high school completion and excellent academic performance.
