SGB member arrested following alleged fake robbery
DENNILTON – A 31 year-old School Governing Body (SGB) member at Njhinga Sindane Combined School in Dennilton outside Groblersdal was arrested for allegedly faking a house robbery involving thousands of rands.
According to information the paper received, the alleged robbed money which was earmarked for a year-end function planned for learners at the school amounted to R29000.
Police said the suspect was arrested on Thursday 24 October 2018 during a snap intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the crime intelligence and Dennilton detective service.
Constable Maphure Manamela, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the woman was arrested after a case of house robbery opened at Dennilton police station by the same suspect.
Manamela said the woman alleged two suspects wearing balaclavas entered her house and took the money.
“It soon came to light during preliminary investigations that the woman was making up stories and a case of perjury was immediately opened against her,” explained Manamela.
Manamela further said police managed to recover some of the money from two other persons who had already deposited it into their respective bank accounts.
“The suspect had earlier gone to the local bank to cash a cheque and instead of taking it back to the school principal as per school arrangement, she proceeded home and allegedly staged a fake house robbery,” added Manamela.
Police said cases of that nature were starting to mushroom as the festive season gradually approached and that a stern warning was issued against the tendencies.
“Cases of theft are being considered against the recipients of a portion of this money and further arrests may not be ruled out,” confirmed Manamela.
The suspect, Linah Jele was granted R1500.00 bail when she appeared before the Moutse Magistrates Court on 26 October 2018 and is expected to reappear before the court on 27 November 2018.
