Children celebrate literacy day
Manoke
Mafemane Primary School at Manoke Village recently celebrated International Literacy Day.
The event was organised by the Room to Read Foundation in collaboration with the Limpopo Department of Education. Pupils from 10 local schools participated in the celebrations.
They read novels and poetry books and also engaged in extramural activities. “We thank Room to Read for supporting our school. The organisation previously also helped in erecting a library at Mafemane,” said Rhrifos Mohlanga, teacher at the school.
Room to Read is a global organisation dedicated to promoting education through programmes focused on literacy and gender equality. It functions in nine countries globally. Since its inception in 2000, it has helped provide better access to education for more than 5,1 million children, supported more than 10 000 schoolgirls, and established hundreds of schools and libraries.
