Production was halted this week in the Steelpoort mines, the R555, Steel Bridge and roads leading to the mines were blocked during the course of this week. This also affected services like clinics and prevented learners from heading to schools.

According to some of the residents, they are in need of jobs in the locals mines. There are also allegations of lack of trust between the mining committees and the communities of Ngwaabe.

On Wednesday about seven trucks were used to blockade the roads in Steelpoort. Miners admitted to being threatened if they reported for work. On Wednesday afternoon, some of the roads were still blocked.
