MAKAEPEA – Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) in partnership with Amalooloo and Limpopo Department of Education donated unique sanitation system pit structures for both waterborne and improved ventilation to Makaepea Primary School outside Tafelkop.
The unique sanitation system pit structures, donated to the school on Monday 10 September 2018, are set to address the problem of lack of proper sanitation in rural schools, a situation which has resulted in pit toilets related deaths around the province.
Julia Mathebe, EMLM Mayor, said: “President Cyril Ramaphosa made the ‘Thuma Mina’ call in his State of Nation Address in which he encouraged South Africans to become active agents in addressing basic services while working with government. This is evidence of the value that can be added through public and private partnerships, and how together we can bring about meaningful change in the lives of South African,”
Emily Magagula, School Governing Body Chairperson, expressed gratitude to Amalooloo and the local municipality, adding that teachers and pupils would be safe in using proper toilets.
Lucas Fourie, Amalooloo CEO, said he believed it was every child’s right to have fully functional and sustainable water and sanitation solutions available in every school.
Fourie added as part of their social development programme, they were committed to continue their donations of Amalooloo toilets to schools across the country.
Also In attendance during the donation was Ishmael Kgetjepe, Limpopo Education MEC, Polly Boshielo, Limpopo Legislature Speaker and Acting Sekhukhune District Municipality Mayor, Mbusi Mahlangu.
