The Reb berets visited Masemola Community FM (MASCOM) due to non-renewal contract of an employee on 21 August 2018. Since a year has begun lot of presenters and news readers from MASCOM left the station. Despite the complaints from the listeners over departed staff the management seems to be undefeated. Non-renewal contract of Reneilwe Thobejane forced the listeners to speak out however grievance falls in deaf ears.
Makhuduthamaga sub region coordinator task team of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Ellias Chauke said aim to visit the station was to demand appropriate reaction from the station. “We desired to know why her contract was not renewed as well as the protocol station utilised to abandon the presenters. Most of the presenters approached us due illegal firing and we demanded the vision and mission of the station,” said Chauke. He said station management advised them to consult board members on issues of hiring and firing. “We called a secretary and we have been told the decision took by management. On 28 August 2018 we sent letter to the management to give us relevant reasons,” Chauke concluded.
An axed late night presenter of Nna le Wena show, Reneilwe said the station accused her of not attending the station meetings. She said jealous drove management to not renew her contract. “I got text whatsapp message on 27 June to come to the station at ten o’clock. In a meeting I was told due to expiring of my contract at the end of June they will renew my contract,” said Reneilwe.
She further said one year she had with the station’s listenership has improved. Former Mascom presenter emphasise the station tries to damage her reputation. She accuses the station of being driven by disorganised management. “I know that I am good presenter and I can’t let the people put me down,” she concluded.
