NEWSTANDS – Elderly ladies in Newstands village outside Marble Hall were treated to soccer matches on Sunday, thanks to the Democratic Alliance in Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality.
The party said the initiative was in line with Mandela centenary celebrations during the July month activities.
Flip Jacobs, DA Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality Councillor, said treating the elderly to soccer on the day was also to highlight the importance of keeping fit.
Jacobs said the party deemed it fit to handover soccer balls to the gogos so that they can form teams and play often to keep them healthy.
“The turnout was good. The gogos participated in the matches in their numbers and they were very happy about it,” added Jacobs.
He said it was also the party’s way of celebrating Madiba’s centenary as the rest of the world held various activities in that regard.
“We are hoping the gogos will continue playing soccer for them to exercise more and keep themselves in good health,” said Jacobs
