Winter schools is a type of short term study programme that usually runs during the winter season. This programme is designed to assist learners on ease their studies and opportunity to study something new.
Bethuel Phasha is a grade twelve learner who attended winter school at Nkgonyeletse high school during school holidays. This school is the centre as every year holds this kind of session. He said winter schools programme made him to comprehend the subjects’ content and be prepared for his final examination.
“The winter schools programme was great assistance to my final exam. We were urged to spend more time pursuing our book to ensure the good results in future. You may think that a week or two is hardly enough time to get to know your winter school classmate,” said Bethuel.
He said the programme taught him to develop his communication skills. Bethuel said learning from other learners was extremely crucial to him as winter school were more on public discourse.
“I learned to be involve myself in discussions with other learners and to brainstorm during the sessions. I believe it would be easier for me when classes resume on Tuesday,” said Bethuel.
Bethuel said no one should take winter schools session for granted.
“We had enough time to revise our first quarter work during winter session. I don’t think pressure is on our side as grade twelve learners because we already one step closer to end our chapters,” said Bethuel.
He said parents support during classes strengthened his ability to concentrate on what is best for him.
