Teenager sentenced to ten years imprisonment for murder

TAFELKOP – A 19 year-old Gibbs Dillion Makwana has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Polokwane High Court for murder.

According to police Makwana’s sentence emanated from an incident which occurred on 6 June 2017 at about 09:00 in which police attended to a scene of murder in Tafelkop Stadium View section outside Groblersdal around the mountains.

Constable Maphure Manamela, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said police reacted to a tip-off from a shepherd after he discovered a body of a young girl, hacked with a sharp object and still dressed in school uniform.

Manamela said the deceased was later identified as that of 15 year-old Dimakatso Tlaka from Tafelkop Stadium View section who was a grade 10 learner at Boleu High School.

He added a manhunt immediately ensued for the suspect and Makwana who was the boyfriend of the deceased and a grade 9 learner at the same school was subsequently arrested later on the same day.

“The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of Act 60 of 2000 Firearm Control Act,” explained Manamela.
