Elderly woman raped, police search for suspects

LEBOWENG – Police in Leboweng outside Burgersfort have launched a massive search for suspects involved in the horrific rape of an elderly woman.

Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the ordeal took place on Monday 04 June 2018 when a 93 years-old woman raped by unknown suspects.

Ngoepe said it was alleged that the victim was awaken by the suspects who forcefully entered her house through a window.

“The suspects demanded money, afterwards they raped her and fled the scene with cash amount of money,” explained Ngoepe.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, General Nneke Ledwaba, has expressed disappointment and disgust on the heinous behaviour.

Ledwaba further issued a stern warning to would be rapists who victimize vulnerable individuals, especially women and children.

“It is upon everyone to protect our elders to avoid such disturbing incidents to happen,” advised Ledwaba.

Ledwaba added that police would not rest until the perpetrators were brought to book and would then ensure that justice prevailed.
