GROBLERSDAL – Limpopo SAPS Communications Component met with Groblersdal cluster SAPS communicators and local media at the Groblersdal police station on Tuesday, 29 May 2018.
The networking session was aimed at improving working relations between police and local media, both broadcast and print in the advancement of social cohesion responsibility of the latter.
Addressing the media and SAPS communicators in the said cluster, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, advised frequent engagements between the two parties were of utmost importance with regard to building a strong working relationship.
Ngoepe said as Limpopo SAPS Communications Component they regarded all media, both print and broadcast as equal.
“We do not have the so called local media and national media. The only thing that exists with us is print and broadcast media, nothing else. We treat all media houses in an equal manner,” informed Ngoepe.
Ngoepe further said it was crucial for media personnel and police to respect each other in their work spaces for an ideal working relationship to be attained.
The Colonel pleaded with SAPS communicators to take seriously journalists’ deadlines and for the latter to respect the work of police, especially crime scenes.
“Crime scene management is very serious, we are pleading with media to treat them with respect,” further advised Ngoepe.
Ngoepe said the aim was to have regular engagements with the media to see how best the relationship could be improved.
