Letsoalo family living in poverty
SEGORENG
Its tough times for the Letsoalo family at Segoreng village. This is because the family of 10 members are living inside a tiny shack. They have been staying in the shack for the past 15 years.
Speaking to the Sekhukhune Times DA’s Ngoako Setjie said they discovered the family during a door-to-door campaign recently where a contractor laid down a foundation in 2002 and never came back to complete the whole house.
“‘Mme Letsoalo, who is an unemployed woman has been sent from pillar to post by the local municipality, but surprisingly, all her neighbours have houses. We approached the Housing department within Polokwane Municipality who confirmed that her house was supposed to have been completed in 2002 and there is nothing they can do.
The DA has written to the MEC for Human Settlements in Limpopo, Jerry Ndou, to intervene on behalf of Letsoalo family.
“It is clear that a contractor has vanished with the money without completing the house, despite being allocated money to build houses for the poor in the village. The ANC-led government is denying the Letsoalos the dignity to own a house as enshrined in the Constitution.
“This is a clear indication that the ANC has forgotten about our people and its government.
Polokwane Municipality spokesman Matshidiso Mothapo indicated that they will do investigations on the alleged matter.
