MOOIHOEK – Ratanang Youth Development Centre held its 1st Annual Freedom Day Soccer Fiesta 2018 at Mooihoek sports ground starting from the 27 – 30/04/2018.
The soccer festival kicked off with Top 8 quarter finals in which four teams made it to the semi-finals. The four were Ratanang FC (Host), Phetwane United FC, Gala FC and Masokolara FC.
On the 28/04/2018, the festival continued with Ratanang FC Ladies team played against Mohlotsi FC and they played 1-1 draw before they went into penalties where Ratanang FC beat Mohlotsi FC by 5 – 3.
“The main aim of the women’s soccer game was to raise awareness about the high rate of teen pregnancy and to encourage participation of teenagers in recreational activities”, explained Head Coach and Co-founder Mr Bobby “Bra Bull” Manasoe.
“I am happy to have been given a chance to play and scored in front of my community”, said an excited Ratanang FC striker Tebogo “Romario” Phukubje after she scored the first goal of the match.
On Saturday 28/04/2018 men’s teams were given a break, Phetwane United FC and Gala FC decided to take part in another tournament at Mamphokgo Village where both teams reached the finals and Gala beat Phetwane United FC to win the tournament.
On Sunday 29/04/2018, first semi-finals Gala FC beat Masokolara FC by 4 – 1 and Phetwane United FC defeated Ratanang FC by 2 – 0.
Gala FC and Phetwne United FC met again in the finals and Gala FC defeated Phetwane United FC for the second time in 2 days.
“Our main objective is to create an environment where the youth can be given opportunity to excel in their respective sporting codes and entertain the community”, continued Ratanang Youth Development Centre Chairperson Mr Thomas Modipa.
“There are no recreational facilities around Rakgoadi which has a negative impact on the community especially the youth who are forced loiter around the streets and I believe event of this nature keeps them away from the street and immoral activities”, concluded Mr Bobby Manasoe.
