Robber fatally wounded during Cash in transit robbery

BURGERSFORT

The police in Burgersfort, assisted by the Airwing are searching for the remaining suspects after an armed robbery that took place at Twin-city Complex in Burgersfort on April 25 at about 10:10.

The security officials from Fidelity Company were about to deliver cash at Absa bank, walking towards the bank when four armed suspects accosted them. The suspects, armed with firearms, robbed the security officials an undisclosed amount of cash that was carried in bags.

Another member from SBV Security Company, who was in the vicinity noticed what was unfolding and reacted swiftly and notified the police.

According to the police the suspects fled the scene, using an Amarok but the police chased them until the vehicle crashed next to St Thomas College. Some of the robbed money bags fell when the suspects were fleeing

One of the suspects was fatally wounded and the remaining three fled on foot. The police are currently searching for them in the nearby mountains with help of a helicopter.

The police recovered two AK 47 rifles, one pistol and one R 5 rifle at the crash site.

The vehicle was reported hijacked in Praktiseer policing area.
