Lawful custody escapee has case postponed
PRAKTISEER– One of the three Tubatse police holding cells escapees, Tumelo Vincent Kgoedi (28) appeared before the Praktiseer Magistrates Court last Thursday 22 March 2018 on a charge of escaping from lawful custody.
Kgoedi’s case was postponed to 05 April 2018 for further police investigations and he remains in custody.
He was re-arrested on Sunday, 25 February 2018 following a tip-off received from residents in the area after escaping from lawful custody on Monday 19 February 2018.
Lt Colonel Moatse Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said during the arrest two unlicensed firearms were confiscated.
Police said one of the escapees was shot and killed and a second wounded while trying to evade arrest last Monday, 19 February 2018.
Ngoepe said police officers received a tip-off on the whereabouts of the two escapees and managed to corner them at two separate locations.
“One of the escapees, Simon Mokone (23) allegedly started shooting at officers who returned fire. He was fatally wounded during the incident. Sandile Emmanuel Lebambo (31) was shot in the leg while trying to evade arrest and is being treated at a local hospital. Once discharged, he will appear before the Praktiseer Magistrates Court on a charge of escaping from lawful custody,” explained Ngoepe
