Modikwa Platinum Mine Develop Local Communities Through Infrastructure Initiatives

Modikwa Platinum Mine continues to develop local communities through its SLP commitments. The upgrade of 5.4 km Matimatjatji tar road has been completed and will contribute significantly to improving lives of local people. The road will improve public transport and better access for residents during the rainy seasons.
During the last quarter of 2017 Modikwa erected Apollo lights at Matimatjatji and Hwashi village’s respectively. The project has been completed and the lights are operational. The Apollo lights will upgrade security and assist in fighting criminal activities in the community. High mast lighting is the most efficient method of lighting large areas with the minimum number of obstructions.
Hwashi offices and Sports complex project is nearing completion. The project is at Matimatjatji village and it will offer local communities a safe place to enjoy recreational and sporting events and also promote an active and healthy lifestyle. The facility include among others, offices, hall, soccer pitch, and kiosk.
These projects created over 70 temporary job opportunities for local people and local contractors. The projects will be handed over to the municipality once they are fully completed.
Modikwa recently handed over sites to the contractors for Difagate access road re-gravelling, Phutinare Secondary School Admin Block and Swale access road paving projects. The projects have started and more job opportunities will be created.
