Limpopo have condemned two separate but similar incidents in the Mecklenburg Policing area outside Burgersfort and in the Maake Policing
area outside Tzaneen where funeral goers attacked local families and burnt their properties.
In Shakung village within the Mecklenburg Policing area a group of suspects burnt houses and cars belonging to two families who they accused of murdering the late Ntakeng Mokgotho. The bodies of Mokgotho and his dogs were found on a mountain near to the village on 20 February 2018.
“It is alleged the group who attended the deceased’s funeral gathered immediately after the service and proceeded straight to the two families homesteads. They attacked them by throwing stones and burnt all their houses and two vehicles.
During this incident two people were slightly injured by flying stones. Meanwhile, the Maake Police are also looking for a group of suspects who burnt a house at Moyakayaka village on Saturday 3 March.
“It is alleged that the group of residents attacked a family and burnt their house to ground immediately after attending the funeral of a local resident who
had recently been murdered. They accused the said family of the murder. The suspects on both incidents are still unknown and there is no arrest, confirmed Ngoepe.
